Personal information
Name: Aminata Bangura
Date of Birth: 26-12-1991
Country: Sierra Leone
Study: Nursing [SRN: State Registered Nurse]
Why I need the iSTEPup Foundation
Hello! My name is Aminata – I am a SECHN at Masanga Hospital.
I have a big family and support both my parents and four step mothers. I also have seven brothers and eleven sisters and lots of live together but I am the only one who is working. I am also a single mother to my son.
I really want to do SRN (the higher nursing degree) because it is a high level of education and is the high nursing standard both at home and abroad. It also has higher skills and more learning and ideas which I want to gain. I will also be able to support my family with this as it is very hard to do this in Sierra Leone without this learning. It would not be possible for me to do this as it is very expensive to do this without help. I worked very hard to achieve my SECHN and I use my learning every day and look forward to my studies.

Alexandra Turnbull – Medical Doctor
I’m Alexandra Turnbull, a UK doctor specialising in General Practice and have an interest in tropical medicine and global health. I worked in Masanga Hospital in Sierra Leone for 9 months with Aminata in 2021 and was impressed by how hard working, motivated and kind Aminata was with her patients. Aminata was working on the paediatric ward at the time and she was always helping and teaching our new staff the knowledge she had already gained. I’m excited to have Aminata as my buddy and am looking forward to see what she will achieve through the iSTEPup Foundation.
