Why I need the iSTEPup Foundation
My dream is to become a pharmacist so that I can help sick people by giving them the right medication and right treatment for their diseases. I have been wanting to study ever since I finished secondary school in 2021. Unfortunately my family’s financial situation is not stable. My parents cannot pay for my studies because my mother does not have a job and my father works as a medical attendant at the hospital where the salary is low, and he has to take care of all of us five children. I have asked my parents multiple times to send me to school but they have failed. I was getting depressed at home, but I decided to try other things. I went in training to become a seamstress, I worked as a waitress at the hospital canteen and I helped my mother selling groceries at the local market. I had almost given up on my dream. Meanwhile, my father went to my buddy Grace Bambe to ask if there are any opportunities to get a scholarship. That’s when we were introduced to iSTEPup. Without the help of iSTEPup I wouldn’t have had the chance to apply to a college. I would still be miserable looking for what to do with my life. Now, I am very grateful for this opportunity and I promise to do my best to turn this chance into a success!

Grace Bambe, MD global health in Tanzania
Hello dear people. I am Grace Bambe and I work as a Medical Doctor in Global Health in Kabanga Referral Hospital in west Tanzania. I work with some wonderful people in the hospital and one of them is Sadock Gervas, the father of Magreth Sadock Gervas. He is a medical attendant who works at the operating theater. He is one of those people that have seen (almost) everything and done everything. He is the person that saves a helpless medical doctor during an operation when things get tough. Needless to say, I have grown quite fond of him over time. One day Sadock came to me and told me that he felt like he was failing his family. He told me about his daughter, Magreth, who was bright in school but who had been at home for 2 years because the family couldn’t afford sending her to college. I felt very sad hearing that and seeing how a loving father was struggling to provide for his family. Then I remembered a talk by Jan-Henk Dubbink, in which he pitched the scholarships of iSTEPup. And I thought, this cannot be a coincidence. Well, I don’t believe in coincidence anyway. So I looked Magreth up, and I got to know her better until I convinced myself that she is indeed a smart young lady. That’s when I decided to help her apply to iSTEPup. Because she and Sadock deserve it so much! I am sure she will put all her energy into her studies and it is my prayer that she will uplift her family and the Kabanga community in the future. I will stand alongside her as her buddy and support her wherever needed. Thank you again to iSTEPup for helping us to realize this. Here is to making dreams come true!
