Why I need the iSTEPup Foundation

I am at verge of breaking, my dream of attaining knowledge degree in medicine is about to collapse, when an outbreak of cholera swept through Malawi. I was allocated to a cholera camp, where I witnessed the heartbreaking reality of patients dying to a disease exacerbated by a lack of transportation and basic life saving techniques. The helplessness I felt as lives were lost made me feel empty, I realized that I lacked knowledge, the actual science more profoundly than what my diploma in clinical medicine could offer. This always fueled my ambition to earn a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. But I failed I had to go for Bachelor science in clinical medicine. However, my family’s financial situation limited my options; my parents prioritized my younger siblings’ education. Despite receiving my admission letter, I was unable to enroll.  I had to change to July intake. The initial semesters went smoothly, but challenges arose in my second semester, i faced difficulties in maintaining my academic standing, yet I persevered. As I entered my fourth year, the pressure mounted with the impending junior clerkship, which would demand all my time and energy, leaving little room for additional work. In moments of doubt about my future, I recalled Dr. Milou, a physician I had met during my internship in obstetrics and gynecology. I reached out to her for guidance, recalling her mention of the Istep scholarship program. This scholarship could be my lifeline. I yearn for this opportunity, as I do not want to return home empty-handed but rather with the skills and knowledge to make a difference in my community.

I first met Moses during my orientation in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Zomba Central Hospital. From the very beginning, it was clear that he is an exceptional individual. Smart, hardworking, and highly motivated, Moses approaches his work with a level of dedication that inspires everyone around him.
Despite facing significant financial challenges, Moses has persevered with remarkable resilience. His unwavering commitment to his education and his dream of contributing to better healthcare in Malawi is deeply admirable.
It is truly fantastic that Moses’s dream is now within reach, thanks to the support of the iSTEPup Foundation. This opportunity will enable him to fully realize his potential and make a meaningful impact on healthcare in Malawi. Zikomo kwambiri, iSTEPup Foundation, for making this possible.
